A Conversation with Lisa of Monkeej

Encouraging imagination to go wild with Super Hero Antics and Tea Party Shenanigans, Monkeej have capes and crowns as the perfect props to such fun!

"Handmade Toys and Accessories from Vintage and New Fabrics", you can expect something truly different for your little ones.

Let's meet Lisa...

Who is Monkeej?

Lisa Madden

What’s your “handmade groove ?”

It's all about vintage fabric and great textures for our beautiful toys and accessories.

What’s on your bedside table right now? (hey, no tidying up or censoring)

Ipod, nail polish, beautiful depression glass bowl with bits and bobs in, and a huge pile of good books.

Who are your creative role models? What music, books, images, poetry spark your creative fire?

My mum is a huge role model. We make the toys together so are brain storm most days over the phone as she is in the South Island. I love old books. Give me an op shop any day over a mall.

What could you talk late into the night about with like minded people?

Books, sewing and my beautiful family.

If you could go to three free workshops/creative events this year which ones would they be?
are they about? The wearable art awards in Wellington is something I would love to go to :)

How do you balance your creative life with your family, life commitments?
At the moment it's really hard with so many markets I'm busy sewing most days and nights. I usually sew at night and try not to do it during the weekend.

What is your favourite creative screw-up?

Oh where do I start. I have at least one a week. I'm always sewing my fabric around the wrong way.

Kitchen table or studio?

Kitchen table so I'm around the kids. But working on the huge studio space.

Do you have a wish list? Can you tell us what’s on it?

To open a beautiful little second hand store full of vintage and retro furniture and clothes. I was a visual merchandiser before children and love making stores and windows look wow.
