Made it here - Otatara

Movie by William Boag

This is the place that started me on my creative journey... I started my studies at Otatara back in the early 90's where we were taught painting, drawing and many other varied skills.  I had wonderful tutors (like the creator of this movie), it was a very easy and fun place to learn and at the end of my time here as a student I received my diploma in a relaxed BBQ ceremony.

It is very sad that the buildings have now been pulled down, but I have so many fond memories from Otatara and of the people who shared it with me.  I feel very fortunate to have been a small part of this special place.

  1. I vaguely remember visiting Otatara, many years ago. Memories are precious. Cheers Marie

  2. Such a shame that the buildings weren't saved and restored - it looks like a wonderful environment in which to have studied art.

  3. I have many fond memories of Otatara. It was a great space for artists and students. Every person who used the space left a bit of their creativity and personality with it. Future generations will be asking why this space was allowed to fall into disrepair and neglect.

  4. We used to visit friends who stayed in the 'log house' for awhile. I guess they were artists in residence. So sad the area couldn't have been retained/restored.
