Business Tip # 7 - Preparing for Market

Tip # 7

Things You Might Need At a Market

If you are just starting out here is a checklist you can use to make sure you have everything you need when you head of to your first market. There is of course a never-ending list of items you could load the car up with but these are just a few essential items that at one time or another I have wished I had available.

  1. Scissors
  2. Cellotape
  3. Pen, vivid and extra card or paper for last minute labelling
  4. Float – $150 is a good amount to start with. broken into various $1, $2, $5, $10 dollar notes - yes I did forget it once!
  5. Business cards
  6. Bags and boxes or other packaging
  7. Your crafting tools to make quick repairs.
  8. Signage – both on the tent and on the table - yep, forgot that one too!
  9. Notebook or folder for newsletter sign-up
  10. Mirror - if your product needs to be seen worn
  11. Apron with pockets - a godsend!
  12. Plastic covers in case it rains - which it could and does!
  13. Water, a snack and some lunch - unless you want to spend your hard earned profits and treat yourself :)
  14. Baby wipes - for after lunch
  15. Chair
  16. Stick pins – to pin lightweight objects to table to keep from blowing away & pin the edges of table cover to keep from blowing.
  17. Binder clips – can be useful to keep table coverings from blowing around as well as for other stuff - paper weights work well too.
  18. A blank notebook to record sales, take custom orders, etc.
  19. Promotional materials besides biz cards. Stickers, badges, pens, pencils, postcards etc - People love freebies.
  20. And, of course, all your crafts, tables, display stands (for added height and variety), gazebo etc.
Good luck and happy selling.

  2. Good point about the paper weights/clips to keep cloths down. I had a fun market once when the wind was high and I wasn't prepared :-)
