Tip # 7
Things You Might Need At a Market
If you are just starting out here is a checklist you can use to make sure you have everything you need when you head of to your first market. There is of course a never-ending list of items you could load the car up with but these are just a few essential items that at one time or another I have wished I had available.

- Scissors
- Cellotape
- Pen, vivid and extra card or paper for last minute labelling
- Float – $150 is a good amount to start with. broken into various $1, $2, $5, $10 dollar notes - yes I did forget it once!
- Business cards
- Bags and boxes or other packaging
- Your crafting tools to make quick repairs.
- Signage – both on the tent and on the table - yep, forgot that one too!
- Notebook or folder for newsletter sign-up
- Mirror - if your product needs to be seen worn
- Apron with pockets - a godsend!
- Plastic covers in case it rains - which it could and does!
- Water, a snack and some lunch - unless you want to spend your hard earned profits and treat yourself :)
- Baby wipes - for after lunch
- Chair
- Stick pins – to pin lightweight objects to table to keep from blowing away & pin the edges of table cover to keep from blowing.
- Binder clips – can be useful to keep table coverings from blowing around as well as for other stuff - paper weights work well too.
- A blank notebook to record sales, take custom orders, etc.
- Promotional materials besides biz cards. Stickers, badges, pens, pencils, postcards etc - People love freebies.
- And, of course, all your crafts, tables, display stands (for added height and variety), gazebo etc.

Love the postcard idea Joy, I always give away free postcards, great advertising, I have had people say, they are going to frame them. cheers Marie
ReplyDeleteGood point about the paper weights/clips to keep cloths down. I had a fun market once when the wind was high and I wasn't prepared :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat list - I hope to oneday do one!
ReplyDeleteWish I'd had pegs/clips last Sunday with the wind gusts - thankfully my neighbouring stallholder came to the rescue!
